Maintenance Mechanic

Wage: $20.00/hr

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is knowledgeable in all aspects of the operation and equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic is a QI in respect to FSMA requirements.

Essential Job Functions – Responsibilities and Regular Duties Include:

Plant Operation

  • Maintenance Tech is responsible for PM and break down repairs in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer’s specifications, machinery, and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems and production machines and equipment.
  • Needs to know motor and control circuits pertaining to plant operation.
  • Understand electrical equipment maintenance and repair. May include running conduit and wiring.
  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and can troubleshoot issues as they arise to help eliminate sources of downtime or process upset.
  • Able to dismantle devices to gain access to repair and/or remove defective parts.
  • Lubricates and cleans parts.
  • Be able to use various maintenance tools including, but not limited tousing hand tools, power tools and precision-measuring and testing instruments, drill press, grinder, welder, and other metal working tools to fabricate new and repair old parts.
  • Works with and on compressed air systems, steam generation and consumption systems, components, and equipment
  • Suggest improvements they think can be made in any aspect of operations.

Employee Development and Training

  • Assists the Plant/Technical, SQR and Production Managers with new employee training, specifically new maintenance technician training.

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Participates in staff meetings, as directed.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties, as assigned.
  • Utilize and work on heavy equipment, including tractors, forklifts, scissor lifts, skid loaders, etc.

  • Critical thinking skills are essential to learning the mill and other aspects of plant operations and using that knowledge to drive improvement in themselves and others.
  • A minimum of one year of knowledge and experience in plant operations or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with other employees in a professional and productive manner.
  • Be self-motivated and can self-manage priorities regarding safety and production, while understanding how and when to ask for assistance.

Physical Demands

  • Activities include walking, climbing, squatting, lifting up to 50lbs., bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, and other movements associated with working in an industrial setting.
  • Be able to work comfortably and safely from heights taking appropriate precautions, including fall protection equipment.
  • Ability to work off-shifts.

Work Conditions

  • Work is in the plant and outside, as needed.
  • The workweek is Monday-Friday, 8-hour days.
  • Additional hours beyond the standard workweek may be necessary.
  • Employees may be required to attend off-site training as it pertains to their job functions. All expenses are covered by ICP.
